Preservation Parks of Delaware County is asking members of the public to comment on proposed projects designed to improve the Big Walnut Community Trail and trails at Gallant Woods Park. Responses are due by Jan. 22.
At Gallant Woods Park in Troy Township, Preservation Parks intends to apply for a federal Recreational Trails Program grant to gravel walking trails that are currently mowed. The mowed sections of the Tree Frog and Pheasant Run trails become waterlogged from rain and snow melt; applying gravel will improve accessibility to these trails year round.
At the Big Walnut Community Trail in Sunbury, the park district intends to apply for a Clean Ohio Trail Fund grant to grade a 620-foot extension of the existing walking trail, and to pave both the existing trial and the extension. This trail is a section of the Ohio to Erie Multiuse Trail, a 10-foot-wide paved trail that, when all sections are completed, will stretch from the Ohio River near Cincinnati to Lake Erie near Cleveland.
Both Preservation Parks projects are planned for completion in 2017.
