Preservation Parks Volunteer

Preservation Parks wouldn’t be where it is without our cadre of dedicated volunteers. Occasionally, we honor one of the volunteers with our thanks and a chance to tell us a little about him– or herself.

Now, we would like to honor our Volunteer of the Year for 2011, Angie Riffle

Name: Angie Riffle
Resides in: Delaware
Famly: Three “darling” nephews

Originally from: Orient Ohio
Occupation: A nanny for 20 years

Q:    What is your favorite Preservation Park? Why?
A.     My favorite park to hike is Hogback Ridge Preserve. I enjoy the mature trees and close proximity to Alum Creek to watch the Osprey platforms.  In the winter months, I love Deer Haven Preserve, because the large bay windows, cozy fireplace and delightful  library chase away any winter blues.

Q.    How did you get involved with the park district?
A.     I became involved with the park district after hearing an ad on the radio for volunteermatch.org. I plugged in my interests and was given a contact number for Preservation Parks.

Q.    What do you do for fun?
A.     I am a voracious reader, history buff, hiker and most recently joined a Schutzhund club.

Q.     Favorite travel destination?
A.     I traveled to the Virgin Islands and went scuba diving. It was the most phenomenal nature  experience I have ever had.

Q.     What’s the last book you read?
A.     The last book I read was Medal of Honor, with portraits of valor beyond the call of duty.

Q.     What’s your favorite restaurant?
A.     My favorite restaurant is Olive Garden.

Q.    What else do you want people to know about you?
A.     Nothing gives me greater personal peace than being immersed in nature. I feel the stress of daily life ease away and my spirit rejuvenated.  My father was a staunch environmentalist and conservationist, and his greatest living legacy is the passion, awe and reverence he gave us about our beloved earth.  Every hour my family donates to the  park district is a living memorial to my Dad.

” There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:
I love not Man the less, but Nature more.”

Lord Byron
