Gallant Farm Preserve

Troy Township - 19 Acres - 2150 Buttermilk Hill Road, Delaware

FUN FACT!

They spin, they “think,” they look like leaves

Ants have the largest brain of any insect. Combined, the number of brain cells in a colony of ants is about equal to the number of brain cells in a human.

A round-headed katydid usually resembles a green leaf, but be on the lookout for this rare pink form of the late-summer songster. Every year a few of these specimens turn up within their range, which covers a large part of the eastern U.S.

Gallant Farm Preserve was purchased in 2003. Funds for the purchase and the construction of an entrance drive were obtained through a grant from the CleanOhio Fund. Located directly across Buttermilk Hill Road from Gallant Woods Preserve, this 19 acre park will be the site of a reproduction historic 1930’s-1940’s era farm. The farmstead will consist of a house in the appropriate style of the time, a variety of buildings which would have been utilized by the farmer during that time period, various gardens and orchards, as well as demonstration crop fields. Additionally, there will be a small welcome center and farm museum to give visitors an introduction to the farmstead.
