Spined Micrathena

Look for these oddly-shaped spiders with a large rear and spiny black projections as you walk through the woods this time of year. .

They build their large orb webs, with a tight spiral, "face high" across walking paths.

The spiders are harmless to humans and you could practice your limbo skills as you try to avoid destroying their webs.

All of our parks have walking trails, but would you like longer trails and trail extensions to ponds and wildlife blinds? How about more picnic shelters?

We have improvements planned for every park. In fact, there are nearly 60 improvements on the list – everything from restrooms to pedestrian bridges to new trails. These are just a few of the features you have been asking for:

•  Blues Creek Preserve
    - A catch-and-release fishing pond
    - Trail improvements
    - A wetland overlook
    - Boardwalk and gravel surface
    - Playground equipment

•  Char-Mar Ridge Preserve
    - A trail extension to the pond
    - A new wildlife blind

• Emily Traphagen Preserve
    - An improved driveway

•  Gallant Woods Preserve
    - Additional playground equipment
