Spined Micrathena

Look for these oddly-shaped spiders with a large rear and spiny black projections as you walk through the woods this time of year. .

They build their large orb webs, with a tight spiral, "face high" across walking paths.

The spiders are harmless to humans and you could practice your limbo skills as you try to avoid destroying their webs.

Nature Center Attendants Wanted!

Imagine having the whole afternoon to relax in a beautiful Preservation Park nature center! Imagine time to chat with park visitors, time to expand on personal hobbies or projects, time to read, time to relax and get in tune with the season. Nature Center Attendants have time to do all of these while they make a huge contribution to our Preservation Parks team.  All you need to do is schedule time!

Volunteers can choose to staff the McCoy Nature Center at Hogback Ridge Preserve or the Lodge at Dear Haven Preserve  for afternoon shifts from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.

Flexible weekday and weekend shifts are available.
